Drug Shortages: Detection through to Mitigation 

This webinar will outline Health Canada’s role as a regulator, collaborator and leader in drug shortage prevention and mitigation. Presenters will provide an overview of regulations and walk attendees through strategies to detect and mitigate shortages using examples.

A graduate of Dalhousie University, Stephanie Di Trapani joined Health Canada in 2005. Since 2020, she has been the Director, Operations Division, Health Product Shortages Division in the Regulatory Operations and Enforcement Branch (ROEB). She oversees the response to drug and medical device shortages. Prior to assuming her current role, Stephanie oversaw compliance and enforcement activities for human and veterinary drugs as well as natural health products. Stephanie has also worked at the Health Products and Food Branch.


Anthony Lostracco

Since 2020, Anthony Lostracco has managed the Drug Shortages Unit in the Health Product Shortages Directorate. In this role, he leads a team of Case Managers who identify potential shortages, assess their impact, and work with stakeholders to create solutions that help prevent or reduce these shortages. Previously, Anthony was a GMP inspector and contributed to several guidance documents. He also spent ten years in industry, holding various positions in production and quality. Anthony earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
